Textbook in PDF format In recent years, mathematical and physical modeling has been accepted as one of the standard tools in new process development and in process optimization studies. While the modeling literature is growing by leaps and bounds, as yet there does not exist a comprehensive treatment of modeling issues. Our aim in writing this volume has been to provide a synthesis of our collective experience in the modeling field, which has involved both mathematical and physical modeling, and a more limited recourse to pilot plant studies. We feel quite strongly that these three should be regarded as complementary approaches to the study of process problems. Wherever possible, we sought to illustrate the fundamental principles through concrete applications; indeed, the second half of the book is devoted to a quite detailed discussion of several specific processing systems
