Textbook in PDF format The purpose of Insights into Computer Science is to provide a systematic overview of the different areas of computer science with the help of integrated systems like Maple, Mathematica, and Mathcad. In this book, we want to present some definitions, principles, methods, techniques, and applications illustrated by interactive examples. Most of us can learn efficiently from examples and personal experiences, therefore we have used many short numerical examples, which can be easily and interactively run on a standard PC to illustrate the different topics. We have used the latest versions of these three different systems to give a flavor of each of them and to assist readers in comparing them and selecting the one most suitable for their needs. There is no single best language for either beginning or advanced programmers to employ. Programming languages are nothing more than sophisticated tools. However, in this book, we have decided to use software packages such as Maple, Mathematica, and Mathcad, as popular representatives of integrated systems providing a new philosophy for using computers in teaching, research, and industry. These systems can provide students with a cutting-edge approach to one of the most dynamic, often subtle, complex, and still rapidly evolving areas of informatics, or as it is frequently called, computer science. Preliminaries. Problems, algorithms, and programs. Data structures. Numerical algorithms. Simulation. Control. Graphs and their applications. Neural networks. Computer graphics. Computer animation.
