The Irish comedian whose trademark style consisted of him sitting on a bar stool with a glass of whiskey and a cigarette,
ruminating on matters ranging from the hypocrisies of organised religion to the generation gap.
This series mixed his comedy monologues with handsomely mounted filmed sketches,
often featuring something dreadful happening to a coffin, Allen as a vicar or unsuccessful attempts at flirting with women.
From January 1978 the show was retitled as 'Dave Allen' with both ITV and BBC series.
