Each pairing illustrates a mood, image, or story common to each song across the centuries. Think of Bob Dylan, Archie Fisher, Taylor Swift, and Richard Thompson, visiting the Elizabethan and Jacobean courts and finding common ground with the songwriters of that time. Renaissance Jukebox is comprised of longtime early music performers Donnie Cotter (voice), Meg Pash (viola da gamba, lute, voice) and Chris Stetson (lutes, chitarriglia, mandolin), with guest artist Mitch Nelin (mandocello). As individual artists and former members of Circa 1600 and AyreCraft, they have explored the song literature of the 16th and 17th centuries and have come to recognize thematic and expressive connections with songs of the present time. This program will be played on early instruments, with the addition of modern mandolin and mandocello. The combination of these sonorities feels at home in both eras. This concert is free of charge and open to the public
