Julie is een typisch Amerikaanse moeder. Ze heeft echter een obsessie voor theoretische fysica en wil een droombaan, ondanks dat ze nooit haar diploma heeft gehaald. Ze weet haar beste vriendin, Claire, over te halen om samen met haar een computerklas te volgen. Maar dan komt ze erachter dat ze verliefd op Claire is. Nadat Claire ook vertelt dat ze gevoelens voor Julie heeft, verlaten ze beide hun mannen en gaan bij elkaar wonen. Maar hun vrienden en familie beginnen van de twee te vervreemden en ze zijn gedwongen te overzien of dit wel is wat ze willen...
