El Chicano are Latin Rock/Funk legends from Los Angeles.
Santana and El Chicano (the original name of the group VIP, the word Chicano is used in relation to US citizens of Mexican origin) were one of the most influential Latin rock bands of the early 70s in the United States. But unlike Santana, El Chicano's history remains a bit of a mystery to many, apart from the band's dedicated fans of course.
The first disc is the history of the band, told by several members of the original lineup. The interview covers the band's classic albums, how they got started playing in a sushi restaurant, what was going on in the Mexican-American community at the time, as well as archival and contemporary material. Musical fragments of the concert from the second disc are included. In short, everything is fine with them and they are in great shape, as evidenced by their second disc.
The second disc is the band's full show from 2008 at Avalon, Santa Clara, California.
