Description : This collection includes 85 films by the Lumiere brothers, filmed in the period 1895-1897. Selected by the classic of French cinema, Bertrand Tavernier, from over 1,500 surviving paintings of the founders of cinema, stored in the archives of the Lumière Institute in Lyon, these films show us in a retrospective form the formation of one of the layers of early French cinema. At the moment, this collection is the most complete collection of paintings by the Lumiere brothers.

The collection is divided into 9 thematic sections ("The first films of the Lumiere brothers", "Lyon - the birthplace of cinema", "Childhood", "The French have fun", etc.) and is provided with piano accompaniment by Stuart Oderman. Disabled voice-overs from compilation compiler Bertrand Tavernier and editor Thierry Fremaux provide an insight into the history of early cinema and are designed to bring greater clarity to what is happening on screen.
