Since his introduction more than 70 years ago, Goofy has become one of the most recognized and loved characters of the animated world, being voted in Disney's 2005 “Golden Ears” survey as the character most people identify with. Yet, like his predecessor Mickey Mouse, Goofy has undergone countless changes over the years. In his 1932 debut “Mickey’s Revue”, he first appeared with the name Dippy Dawg, which answers a frequently-asked question, “what is Goofy”? He is a dog! However, unlike Pluto, Goofy was granted the anthropomorphic features of walking on two legs, wearing clothes, and partaking in “human” activities - like his fellow stars Mickey and Donald. It was his laugh - provided by one-time clown Pinto Colvig - which helped Goofy stand out from the other generic background characters in the early barnyard shorts, although it is his yell which many identify with. Goofy became an instant star, and was promoted to appearing alongside Mickey and Donald on many occasions (such as in classic 1930s shorts “Clock Cleaners” and “Lonesome Ghosts”).

'The Complete Goofy', a Walt Disney Treasures DVD set, was released in 2002. It features 46 film shorts originally released between 1939 and 1961. Several years ago, I downloaded three different versions of this without examining the cartoon videos. A few days ago I finally decided to look them over. Shockingly, all of them, including a VOB version, had date and title errors. Anyway, I ended up extracting the cartoons from the VOB version (which had the best quality), converting them to MP4, and correcting all the mistakes (by viewing the copyright year and title of each cartoon on the actual video itself). I have made the executive decision to date each cartoon by the copyright year printed on its film cover page rather than the release date indicated on the DVDs and the internet. I have included an inferior second version of the cartoons because this one has all the film cover pages where the copyright years are shown. Enjoy!
