In 1660, William Harrison a local rent collector was reported missing by his wife. Subsequently, items of clothing believed to be Harrison's were found by the roadside. In due course, suspicion fell on Harrison's servant John Perry, who under questioning blamed his mother and his brother, saying that they had robbed and killed Harrison. All three Perry's were hung for the crime.
