Reviews ~~~~~~~ By Aaron Cohen http://www.downbeat.com/defaultl.asp?sect=editorspicks201309#7 Prepare bassist Mark Dresser a meal, and don’t be surprised if he turns it into a song. One of his recent compositions, “Canales Rose,” is named for Dresser’s chef friend Paul Canales, and saxophonist Rudresh Mahanthappa’s alto lines reflect the ebullient feelings that the bandleader mentions in his liner notes to the CD on which the song appears, Nourishments. But that saxophone solo is just one ingredient in a piece that traverses tricky rhythmic changes without losing its ethereal qualities. The album is filled with all sorts of such thrilling, unusual performances. Denman Maroney plays his “hyperpiano” style here, applying tools to the instrument’s strings. The results create a sense of tension, particularly on “Para Waltz” and in his dialog with trombonist Michael Dessen on the blues tune “Aperitivo.” Drummers Tom Rainey and Michael Sarin alternate on the disc’s tracks, with the latter offering his lively challenges to the quintet on the title tune. -- By Paul Acquaro http://www.freejazzblog.org/2013/11/mark-dresser-nourishments-clean-feed.html By Massimo Ricci By Robert Bush http://www.allaboutjazz.com/nourishments-mark-dresser-clean-feed-records-review-by-robert-bush.php By Dan McClenaghan http://www.allaboutjazz.com/nourishments-mark-dresser-clean-feed-records-review-by-dan-mcclenaghan.php By Alberto Bazzurro (it) Por João Santos (pt) Par Luc Bouquet (fr) http://grisli.canalblog.com/archives/2013/11/02/28320245.html Por Pachi Tapiz (es) http://www.tomajazz.com/web/?p=10170
